What is….tumors shrunk by 50 percent? Jeopardy host Alex Trebek gave an update about his stage 4 pancreatic cancer status, TVGrapevine has learned.

The 78-year-old game show legend told People magazine that while he is NOT in remission, some of  his tumors have shrunk by 50 percent and he is “responding well to chemo.” This is incredible news, especially since his type of cancer has a low survival rate. He still has several more rounds of chemo to go and hopes that he ends up in full remission.

Although he was depressed and in a lot of pain during his chemo, Alex still filmed Jeopardy. He said that he didn’t want to take time off and let his fans or staff down.

Trebek thanked his fans for their support during his diagnosis and treatment.

“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers. I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this,” he told People.  “I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayer, and I will never ever minimize the value of that.”

More information will be posted as it becomes available. TVGrapevine continues to send prayers and love to Alex and his family.
