MASTERCHEF JUNIOR: MEET JASMINE

MASTERCHEF JUNIOR
MEET JASMINE

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I am a 12 year old 6th grader at the Ron Clark Academy.  I live in Milton GA, and I have an older brother Justin.  I am very active, I love to participate in sports and activities. I am a cheerleader, I`m a part of my schools Model UN team, and our schools debate team. In my free time I, of course, love to cook and I love hanging out with my friends, shopping with my mom, and gardening. My dad and I recently started a garden of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. We already have a few things growing which we are really excited about! Finally, I enjoy mentoring others.  Currently, I mentor some of the younger 5th graders at my school.

What made you decide to be on MasterChef Junior?

Actually my mom found the opportunity, and when she told me I might have the chance to be on the show I was super excited. I was excited because I knew I would have the chance to meet 2 amazing people, who were amazing role models in the culinary world. I also knew that if I made it, I would be able to go on set and see where the show was filmed. Finally, I was excited that I might get the opportunity to be around people who love to do the same things I love to do (cook) and actually cook in that beautiful MasterChef kitchen.  All of these things came together and really made me want to participate.

What has been your favorite part of being on the show so far?

I would say my favorite part of being on the show so far has been the ability to learn how to make different dishes and film in different locations.  So much fun!  Also, it has been really cool to watch myself on TV with my family. I never thought I would be able to see that, and especially not at my age!

What have you learned from the judges?

I have learned a lot from the judges. Some of the things I`ve learned is how to work well under pressure and time constraints. When I`m at home I have to work quickly but It`s not like the MasterChef Junior kitchen. So now at home I work much faster, but still have a great time.

You had some very cool guests and judges.

Who was your favorite and what was it like to meet/cook for them?

My favorite guest judge was Julie Bowen. I loved meeting her because, I watch her on Modern Family all the time. She was super funny, and really nice. Plus, she loved my curry dish. I also really did enjoy having Michelle Obama on the show, it was truly an honor. Even though she didn’t judge it was great to see her, and she was very encouraging, and inspiring. I would love to be able meet her one day!

What is one thing you want to learn how to cook?

I would love to learn how to make the perfect surf and turf dish, and the perfect lasagna. But from a baking stand point, I would love to learn how to make Christina Tosi`s birthday cake!

What is your signature dish?

Now, that is a hard question. I have a lot of signature dishes, but I would say my signature dish is herb pesto turkey breast roulade, served with ditches potatoes, and balsamic glazed brussel sprouts.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Some of my hobbies are writing, dancing, designing clothes, and gardening. My dad and I are currently trying to learn French, so we can use it when we do one of my other favorite hobbies which is traveling.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I grow up I would love to be an entertainment attorney or a news anchor.  I enjoy public speaking, debate and the news so either of these would be perfect.  Plus, we have a good family friend who is an anchor and I admire her and what she does.  I would also love to publish a cookbook and become a food blogger as I love coming up with and trying new recipes and restaurants.  One things for sure, I will always find a way to keep cooking!

What are your plans after the show is over?

After the show is over, I hope to finish the school year and get ready for summer break.  I plan to also binge watch MasterChef Junior, of course! I really want to focus on living in the moment and enjoying my time on the show, because opportunities like this sometimes only come once and I don’t want to waste it.  I’d like to take a few cooking classes and launch my blog.  I also have a few business ideas that I am working on with my mom.

What is a fun fact about you?

A fun fact about me is that I do really good imitations of people.  My mom is always cracking up when I get started.  I only do them for my family but when I do them, it’s pretty funny.  Another fun fact is that I enjoy doing tons of cartwheels.  So much so that I have been banned from doing them in my home.

What are you watching on TV these days?

I would say everything. No I`m just kidding (there are really a bunch of shows I need to catch up on!) No, but I love to watch Modern Family, the Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Dance Moms, Ellen, and well of course, MasterChef Junior!

Anything else you want to tell America?

I just want to tell America that I really appreciate the support that I have been given so far in this competition. I hope that America sees that I am genuine, fun loving, positive, and am really in love with the art of cooking!
