The Top 12 Are Named

Hi and welcome to American Idol, the results!  After tonight’s elimination show, we will know who will move on to the Top 12 and earn the right to compete for the title of American Idol Season 9.

The past two nights of performances have shown much growth and improvement in most of the contestants.  At this point, I feel there is more talent with the guys than the ladies, however, that can certainly change week to week.

Opening the show with Mike Buble`s song “Haven’t met you yet” we are treated to a nice performance by the top 16 contestants still in the competition.  We also learn that our special guest performers tonight will be last years’ contestants, Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre.  I always enjoy seeing the changes and improvements in those who competed in previous years.

The excitement builds as we begin this elimination round with the ladies:

First up, Didi Benami, who tells us how nervewracking performing on this stage has been for her.

After the nationwide vote, she is the first contestant named to the top 12!

Siobhan Magnus, dubbed the ‘dark horse’ tells us she is having a blast and she can really be herself on stage.

Congrats, you have been named to the top 12!!

Paige Miles and Katelyn Epperly are asked to come forward to learn their fate.  One of these ladies is safe, the other will be going home tonight. Simon feels that Paige is the one with the most potential.

Paige makes it to the top 12, Katelyn will be leaving tonight.

Tim Urban, Toderick Hall, Lee Dewyze, and Casey James are asked to come forward as Ryan is ready to announce the guys who have earned the right to continue in this years American Idol competition.

Ryan tells Casey that he is the first of the guys to continue the journey.  Tim is the next to be named to the top 12, leaving us to know that either Lee or Toderick will be eliminated.  Ryan asks Randy if the two remaining contestants both deserve a spot, to which Randy replies, ‘yes, but Lee has been the one who has been most consistent.”  We learn that Lee will be moving on and we will be saying goodbye to Toderick.

Two ‘piano guys’ from last season, Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre treat us to a rousing version of “Tell her about it” by Billy Joel.  The audience is brought to their feet by this upbeat performance.  Scott has a new album out and Matt has a #1 single on the charts.

Dimming the lights, we next see Crystal Bowersox being named to the top 12.

Michael Lynche, head on over to the stool, you are next to continue this ride.

Lacey Brown, in her second try at American Idol, will be living her dream as she is headed for the top 12!

Aaron Kelly, who Simon says needs more confidence, tells us he will become more confident as he continues competing, and is told he will be going on to continue his dream!

Alex Lambert and Andrew Garcia are next with the last spot of the guys belonging to Andrew.  Alex has been eliminated.

We are left with Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott.  One is safe while the other is going home tonight.  Kara voices surprise at those two being the remaining contestants as both are good in their own way.

The final seat in the Top 12 belongs to Katie.  Lilly will be leaving tonight.

We now have our Top 12 contestants.

The girls are: Didi Benami, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Katie Stevens

The guys are:  Casey James, Lee DeWyze, Tim Urban, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelley, and Andrew Garcia.

American Idol Top 12 Finalists

Lots of tears, smiles, laughter, and emotions are shown as we see recaps of the journey for those eliminated tonight.

Next week is the Anerican Idol ‘big stage’ for the top 12. They will be performing songs by the Rolling Stones.
