Syrvivor Samoa - Jeff ProbstSurvivor Samoa
Recap November 12, 2009
by honeySC

Russell is worried that he is the tribe member leaving next and he is hoping for a miracle on tonight's Survivor Samoa. The tribe is happy that they were able to flush out his idol and still send Eric home.  Natalie finds that hunger will push you to extremes as she kills a rat with a stick for a meal. She says she is so hungry. As a southern belle this is a new experience for her and the tribe cooks it for dinner commenting that it tastes similar to chicken.

Tree mail brings a reward challenge that will bring a meal. Russell would rather find another immunity idol since he is very concerned that this is the only way he is going to avoid going home next.

Survivor Samoa Reward ChallengeJeff explains the reward. It is a natural rock slide where you can enjoy fried chicken, brownies. There is a random draw for teams with one person sitting out. Natalie sits out, but she is allowed one team to support and if that team wins she goes on reward with them. She chooses Laura, Mick, Russell, Jaison, and Bret, the yellow team. The teams must gather poles by racing for the poles and unknotting them, retrieving them for their team. Yellow, Natalie's pick is ahead and they use the coconuts on the poles to match up to numbers. The poles with black and white coconuts on them have to be carefully placed to match up to four digits. When they find the match to the numbers a member is blindfolded and then must match a combination with only the sense of touch. Matching the combination will raise a flag naming them as winner of the competition. Yellow moves out quickly, but purple takes the win. Purple consists of Shambo, Dave, Monica, John and Kelly. Natalie, rooting for the yellow team, must go back to camp without the win. John loves the rock slide. Kelly loves the clear water. Monica feels right at home since she is from Puerto Rico. They find that there is an immunity idol hidden at camp somewhere. They decide to keep the information strictly for Galu and decide to take out Foa Foa with Russell first. Shambo doesn't want Russell to go saying that you cannot trust him, but he is not strong at challenges. Kelly feels that perhaps Shambo is the most likely person to go to Foa Foa.

Hidden Immunity IdolMeanwhile, back at camp, Russell spends the day looking for the immunity idol that he isn't even sure exists. Logically it must be near a landmark, so he searches near anything that might be considered one. He finds the idol without a clue while the reward winners are still reading about the clue in their off site location, dining, diving, and swimming. He feels it is worth the million dollars. He says that he missed fried chicken and brownies for the second immunity idol and thinks that it was a good exchange for him.

Back at camp again, Russell and Shambo go off snail hunting and he tells her he trusts her like no other. Then he shares the idol with her. Shambo is astounded that he found it, and Shambo and Russell agree to ride in the same boat, sailing on. Shambo tells him that he is already slated to go. The decide to not tell the others, get Galu to vote him out while Foa Foa votes out Laura. Russell will play the idol and Laura will go home. Their only concern is that Laura, the Medusa, not win individual immunity.

Immunity ChallengeJeff calls the tribe for the immunity challenge. There is only one immunity necklace this week. They will use a grappling hook to retrieve bags that contain a peg. The first three to successfully hook their two bags with the hook and get to the final round staging area will go on to the final round.  Shambo, Mick, and Kelly get their first bag quickly and Mick gets his second bag and begins to work the puzzle. Russell gets a bag and Shambo gets her second bag. Russell gets his second bag at the same time Laura gets it and they race for the final round site. Laura is first and joins Mick and Shambo to go to the final round. They take their pegs and look for the spot that they fit in. One fits and one is useless. When they find it, the insertion of it makes another peg of a different shape drop. That peg can be placed and another of a different shape will drop until they have placed all the pegs. Shambo takes the lead, but Mick is close behind. Laura takes the lead when she finds her first piece and Shambo falls behind when she hits a roadblock. Laura gets immunity and is safe from tribal council with back to back immunity wins.

Back at camp, Laura is confident that Russell will go home. The old Galu is focused on taking out Foa Foa one at a time, and at the reward site, they agreed on Russell. Shambo is upset that she didn't win, but says that their second option was to take out Kelly. Russell tells Jaison that he has found a second idol and informs them that they should all vote out Kelly. Jaison tells the others on Foa Foa that the attention must be focused on Russell. Mick is fascinated that Russell finds it. They hope to put a dent in Galu and the condescending attitude they have towards them.

Galu has a conversation that perhaps they need to have a backup plan in case someone on Foa Foa has an idol. They briefly discuss it and then discard the possibility. Russell overhears Natalie's name being spoken by Galu and becomes confused about whether or not to play his idol at Survivor Samoa's tribal council tonight. Galu feels they are tight and although they don't trust Shambo, they are going to stick with the plan to take out Foa Foa, making Russell tonight's target.

The tribe gathers for tribal council and Eric as first member of the Srvivor Samoa jury joins them.  Jeff asks Dave about tribal lines. Dave says that their tribe was weakened from within and taking out Eric was a way to strengthen their tribe. Natalie says that she feels they are welcoming them and they aren't being mean or ugly to them. Jeff points out that they are not one tribe. Jaison says that he is holding onto some hope. Shambo feels that the original Galu is feeling comfortable. Mick says that their days might be numbered if Galu doesn't realize that they are good strong votes. Russell says that he was trying to find the chink, but he has given up on that. Dave feels that physical ability, mental toughness, and strategic acuity is a reason to take someone out.

Jeff calls for the vote.
Jeff calls for the hidden immunity idol and Russell says that he is not finished playing just yet and presents it. Jeff announces that if it is played, any votes cast against that person will not count and the next highest vote getter goes home.

Kelly BanishedThe votes:
Russell, Russell, Russell, Russell, Russell, Russell, Russell, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. Since Russell's votes don't count, Kelly goes home. Laura whispers that Russell has stirred up one hell of a nest. Russell knuckle shakes with Jaison. Foa Foa has survived the vote. Jeff asks if Foa Foa has survived or merely delayed the inevitable?  He informs them that the immunity idol will go back into play again.

Kelly's last words:

Kelly was blindsided and feels that Galu must get the immunity idol out of Russell's hands. She wonders if anyone from Galu was in on it. She says that Russell is a sneaky little man.

Next week on Survivor Samoa:

It is a showdown between Russell and Laura. Finding the next idol means everything and when Russell takes off to look for it Galu follows him.
