Well, I'm just a tad disappointed after watching The 43rd Annual CMA Awards. The biggest surprise to me are the awards that Taylor walked away with. Don't boo me just yet, I know the girl is talented and so popular among the younger generation but come on..... entertainer of the year??? Against such greats such as Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, George Strait and Keith Urban? Somethings just not right with this picture. I am happy for the girl, she has climbed to the top of the country charts in no time but this is the highest honor one can receive and imo, she did not deserve it over the others mentioned. Don't be calling me Kanye, I don't mean to take anything away from her, I just don't see how she out ranks the others mentioned in that specific category. Kenny and Brad have had an amazing year and I think either of them deserved to take this. I totally will give her the other two categories she walked away with being female vocalist of the year and album of the year so you see, I do think she is deserving. The other disappointment was the music selected. It was sooooooo slow. This show should have been jamming instead of all the laid back (but still awesome) songs. I would say the top two performances of the night would hands down go to The Zac Brown Band for their rendition of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Wow was that ever entertaining! I have loved this group since they came out, what talent right there! The other performance would be from Sugarland, Jennifer Nettles has THE most amazing voice ever and she just makes you feel the lyrics, she is untouchable! I just wish the show was more pumped rather than all the slow numbers that were performed. Kudo's to Lady Antebellum for snagging Vocal group of the year and also Single of the year, well deserved and I know we're gonna see great things for a long time to come from this group. Also to Jamey Johnson for his inspiring words on the song "In Color" which walked away with song of the year. Darius Rucker was feelin the love when he won best new artist and wow was he ever grateful! Just seeing the joy and excitement come from him you couldn't help but feel the same emotion. He sure has made a name for himself since his Hootie and the Blowfish days and he definitely has earned a spot for himself in country music. Vocal duo of the year was awarded to Sugarland and at this point, I can say I am happy that Taylor Swift had no chance of winning this one! Sugarland is THE group and if any of the other duos nominated would have won this award I would have been so upset. The male vocalist category I bet was tight. Between Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney, I don't think the others (Darius Rucker, George Strait or Keith Urban) stood a chance. A little disappointed that Kenny's role has come to an end although Brad has earned this title. Some other highlights for me would have to be Miranda Lambert's "White Liar". Someday this awesome singer will get all the recognition she so deserves. And come to think of it, where the heck was Blake Shelton in any of these performances? He definitely earned his spot on the stage this year! Daughtry and Vince Gill together was really cool but it felt really strange to watch Vince basically singing back up. Brooks and Dunn closed out their relationship and I don't know if it was just me but you could tell something was missing. Their long run is over and I wish them well. Jamey Johnson and Kid Rock had me smiling, love the two of them together. The song they sang though, reminded me of "I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willy again". Jamey definitely has his own look and style, wonder if he has what it takes to stick around for the long haul. Jason Aldean seemed a bit off tonight but I love that song so much, he must have been nervous being up there. I was also happy to see Billy Currington perform his hit "People Are Crazy", what a catchy tune that is. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are so good together and their little interludes were just perfect. They really have such great chemistry together and I hope they're back next year to host again.

Sorry I for one agree with the CMA'S! Taylor has stood the whole American Music Industry on there heads. Not to take anything away from the guys talents, Taylor has mesmerized so many people and have brought so many young people back to country music that she in herself is an event. I am in my mid 50's and no teen taylor trekky, so I speak open and honest!

I am just wondering what has happened to the country music, it sounded like a pop music award show to me.....

Taylor Swift Fan, perhaps you also would have been happy to see Miley Cyrus perform as well then. Taylor winning this award laughable and after reading up on other opinions and listening to our local station this morning, it seems I am not alone. Her performance last night sucked for lack of a better word and without her back up she sings no better than I do. What an embarrassment in the name of country music.

Taylor has been launched into super stardom, but I also am not sure she
deserved entertainer of the year. However as grand as george is he has won so many times..What I wonder is? Does entertainer of the year include live performances. Taylor doesnt seem to perform that well live. I was thinking as I watched her uncomfortable performance (if it was off-key,wish I could hear that) She doesnt sound as well live as she does on the recording and all her moves were stanged. I adore Taylor and I think she is brilliant and I stand up a lot for her at work, I just am not sure that opening performance was at the level of Entertainer of the year. Her songs set her apart from the crowd, but her live performances (and I have seen several) are not as stellar as they could be Jilly, I agree with you, Thank you for being honest. As for Sugarland: Perfection written by George, November 12, 2009
Wow! How amazing were the Country Music Awards last night! There were such good live performances by Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. Speaking of Carrie Underwood, She had so many amazing dresses that she wore through out the show. I’m really glad that Taylor Swift won Album of the Year. Fearless was a great record and she really deserved it. I found this great article and photo gallery from the show over at iHeartRadio. You should definitely check it out if you missed anything from the show. The link is http://www.iheartradio.com/cc-...mawinners.

I got to go with..... where the heck was the country music? I am not so sure what Taylor Swift was performing was country. Cross over is one thing but losing a genre's identity is a complete other thing.

The Disney dollars for promoting this girl have paid off. And Disney owns ABC. Gee, I wonder how she won so handily.
At 19, and probably 10 years from now, she won't be worth the awards she just won from those who deserved them. written by JoAnne in Cincinnati, OH, November 12, 2009
I don't hear any "country" in any of her music (?). She is screaming, not singing.
Over the past few years, it seems that "country" is enveloping any kind of music that doesn't fit rap or reggae. I'd like to know what truly characterizes "country music" anymore. written by getoverit, November 12, 2009
at least this girl writes her own songs. that's more than you can say for a lot of the pretty-faced "artists" in country music. it's a lot harder to write back to back hits than it is to buy them. She outsold everyone in the music industry except michael jackson this year. She's done all this before she even hit twenty. it's a hell of a lot bigger accomplishment than winning World's Biggest Karaoke Champ and having a bunch of songwriting teams pump out hits for you. if you can't give her any credit at all then you're just old and bitter. she's a legitimate songwriter. she deserves what she has.

Taylor Swift does NOT sing country! She sings Pop music! How does CMA not see/hear that! Really discredits the CMA show! SHAME!

George Jones has recently said that Taylor and Carrie should go to another genre; they have stolen country music's identity. and he is right; last night's show was a disaster and if you liked it, you are not true country. Zac Brown did an awful job of Charlie Daniel's song. Jamie Johnson is the real deal and I am done with the awards show for country. Nashville better get it together or they are going to have a lot of explaining to do; this is exactly what happened back in the 80's and then Randy Travis came along and country came back for a while.

Last and final year for CMA. They are completely out of touch and all politically / financially motivated. I hear all the real country stars are going to quit them like Toby Keith. Should be revised to the Pop Teen Awards........................
written by Francie, November 13, 2009
I agree with those who wondered where the country music was. There were very few "country" performances, not many. Taylor can't sing live because of the music industry today and all of the technology available when recording. Very few can actually sing live these days. We didn't use to look for perfection.......Loretta Lynn, for instance, is not a perfect singer. But we love her and she is COUNTRY. There was something special about that simplicity.
Personally, I think the lines between pop/cross-over and country have become so blurred that those buying into "country" music today don't even know what true country music is. And this cross-over country pop is so lucrative that they don't care........money talks. As for Taylor winning everything, I think it was political. Carrie won everything at the ACM's and I think TPTB were upset that Taylor was shut out. Did Carrie win anything the other night??? Ultimately, country music is in a sad state right now. Thank God for those few who recognize the need to protect traditional country. written by mark, November 13, 2009
Taylor Swift winning female vocalist of the year is like George Bush winning an award for 'best president'!!
written by Jill, November 13, 2009
Francie, Carrie didn't win anything. Shows ya right there how off they were.
I definitely put Carrie in the country group so I disagree with most of you on that. Taylor was basically a shoe in from the night that Kanye dissed her. Country wants to keep her right where she is so she doesn't stray. Too bad most of the country music lovers want to see her gone. Let her continue to write songs, she has proved she is talented there but come on, that girl cannot sing for nothing! I don't think most of the performances were too "pop" most just chose to sing something a little out of the norm which to me, shouldn't have been done on such a big night. We lost so much of the energy that should accompany a once a year event. As Simon would say, it's all about song choice. Someone mentioned they didn't like the song The Zac Brown Band did, really??? I was in awe of their playing, it was amazing! Some other things I didn't mention, briefly...... what was with Kelly Picklers look? Wow that is so not her, go back to blond! Barbara Mandrell looks gorgeous! The Judds, seriously, who goes to a tanning booth and chooses to look orange? She looked ridiculous although it seems she may be getting successful in losing weight. Naomi did not look good at all, poor woman. Faith Hill who is always stunning looked schlepy in that dress and I would bet that Keith Urban's wife Nicole Kiddman is pregnant! George Strait is looking old and someone needs to tell him to pull his pants down a little. Vince Gill should NEVER wear those glasses again, Leanne Rhimes looked like a raccoon and the most awkward moment of the night is awarded to Sugarland for asking Brooks and Dunn to come up on stage with them. You could just feel that uncomfortableness! written by Francie, November 13, 2009
Jill, Carrie won Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist at the 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards, I believe. Unless I'm getting all of the award shows confused. LOL!
She also won for best album for Carnival Ride and someone said she won for single, but I don't remember that one, right off. I agree....what was up with Pickler's hair? Being a (non-working) hairdresser, I have to wonder who did that. It looked like she did it herself. She's too young and pretty for such a drab color! written by Jill, November 13, 2009
Sorry Francie but Taylor took both of those categories. Carrie wasn't even nominated for entertainer of the year category. Best single went to Jamey Johnson for In Color.
written by Francie, November 14, 2009
Jill,
"Fans named Carrie Underwood Entertainer of the Year and Julianne Hough Top New Artist at the 44th Academy of Country Music Awards." If you go to the ACM website and click on ACM Awards, then Awards Show News, you then can scroll to Carrie and click on "complete list here", which opens as a pdf file. The list is for this past yesr's ACMs, April 2009, which is what I'm talking about. (I posted the link, but it wasn't accepted when I added comment) written by Jill, November 14, 2009
You're talking about a different awards show which was over 6 months ago. What was on a few night ago was The 43rd Annual CMA Awards.

I agree with many of you! Taylor did not deserve female vocalist of the year or especially not entertainer of the year. She cannot possibly entertain me for more than 5 minutes without getting annoyed. Country music was great until she came along. Taylor really needs to grow up, she's not in high school anymore, and she really, really needs to stop singing songs about fairy tales, ponies, and all that make believe crap she writes. Carrie Underwood and Kenny Chesney were the best.
written by Francie, November 16, 2009
Jill, I know.........that's my point. I feel that because Carrie won those awards at THAT show, some country people were determined that Taylor would win the show last week. I had read where some of TPTB (The Powers That Be) were not happy that Taylor did not win in that earlier awards show.
Anyway........just my opinion and we know what that's worth. And I, obviously, am not making myself very clear. I'm outta here.......have a great day!
written by Jill, November 17, 2009
Francie, I loved hearing what you had to say, especially since you agreed with me lol. You asked if Carrie won anything during that show and I answered that she didn't, that she wasn't even nominated.... that's all.

because taylor writes her own songs... they are more popish.. teeny bopper (because she is young).. but they do have the quality country music style... remember when everyone said shania with her up! cd was ruining country? Shania is all country and everyone thought she strayed with that cd because of the upbeat songs. But she didnt.. and it sold extremely well.
taylor will be around a long time.. very few country singers sound like the cd's when singing live... there were quite a few performances that night i can name where the stars were not their best.. sugarland, tim mcgraw etc... i dont rank taylor anywhere near shania in vocals at all.. but you can just listen to the crowd when singing 15, they took over the song.. so she brings to country a younger generation that most genre's would kill for. she is very talented.. marketable.. and above average singer... give credit where credit is due. and entertainer of the year.. is based on album sales, ticket sales.. and performances at the concerts... trust me.. carrie underwood is boring boring boring in concert compared to taylor... but kenny chesney tops them all.. and probably shoudl have won the award again written by JAE, February 05, 2010
WHO???? IS PAYING WHO????? OFF TO ENABLE THIS TWIT TO WIN EVERYTHING IN COUNTRY MUSIC?????? HAS THE WORLD GONE CRAZY. THIS TWIT CANNOT CARRY A TUNE, MOST DEFINITELY DOES NOT SING COUNTRY MUSIC. MY CAT SCREECHING SOUNDS MORE COUNTRY THAT THIS TWIT! EVER NOTICED HOW SHE STANDS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SING? IT'S AS THOUGH SOMETHING BETWEEN HER LEGS DOESN'T SMELL GOOD AS EVIDENCED BY HER NOSE. SHE NO MORE SINGS COUNTRY THAN A CUBAN WHO FLOATED OVER ON A PLANK! WHAT HAPPENED TO CARRIE UNDERWOOD? KELLIE PICKLER? SUGARLAND? BRAD PAISLEY? THE CMA AWARDS IS NOT A TEENY BOPPER EVENT! CLEARLY SOMEONE HAS BIG BUCKS TO PAD SOMEONE'S POCKETS IN ORDER FOR HER TO WIN. IT'S DISGUSTING, DISPICABLE, AND A DISGRACE TO COUNTRY MUSIC! SHAME ON CMA FOR BEING BOUGHT!
