Hello and welcome to Dancing With The Stars….week eight! Tonight, each couple prepares for two dances—their own as well as a head to head team dance—tango vs. paso doble. There is also drama, illness and so much more! The night begins with a pro dance showcasing what we will see later on in the broadcast. It is so hard to tell that about half the pros are sick! I hope those who are get well soon! As the stars descend down the stairs, I notice Lacey is gone and Anna T is there! It turns out Anna is subbing since Lacey has the flu. Get well Lacey! This week the stars designed the costumes. Joanna did NOT have Derek in a rhinestone Speedo, but that is ok, he still looks hot. After Len says he wants the expectations are higher this week, Michael and Anna take on the foxtrot. He wants to bring elegance and grace with the dance and show that this is his time to shine. The dance is quite smooth and has some clean footwork and he looks much more relaxed this week. I’m quite impressed. Len thinks he was brilliant Bruno says his musicality has improved but to remember the nickel. Carrie Ann calls him incredible and compliments his costume design. (Which is cute. It would be a gorgeous color for a wedding.) Scores: 8-8-7=23 out of 30.
The dance is smooth, musical, and has just enough razzmatazz to hold my attention. His posture also is better this week. I love it!!! Bruno says his showmanship covered his mistakes. Carrie Ann liked it, but points out some mistakes. Len calls it a full on quickstep. Score: triple 8s for a 24 out of 30.
The samba is fun, exciting and has a lot of great footwork in it. He truly looks like despite the tough week, he is enjoying himself. Very nice indeed! Carrie Ann thinks it was a mess and has a lot of nervous energy. (Oh look, Chuck!) Len says that while it is not his best, he coped well under the circumstances. Bruno compares it to Kung Fu Panda doing the samba. Scores: 6-7-6=19 out of 30.
Mya and Dmitry also have the foxtrot this week. They want to recover from their stumble. Florence Henderson comes in to show them how she did it back in the day. Their dance is very old Hollywood and glamorous, nice lines and footwork and overall a very nice job. It was the perfect combination of technicality and artistry. Len thinks it was too gimmicky. Bruno gushes over her, saying she dances like an angel. Carrie Ann says Len is smoking crack. She loves the costumes—and the dance. Scores: 9-7-9=25 out of 30.
We’re Not Gonna Take It! All right! I never in a million years expected to see a jive to this song! It was the best dance he has ever done, hands down. There is nothing bad to say about it—it was almost flawless. Bruno proclaims that it was his best dance. Carrie Ann also loves it! Len says he can light up Hollywood! Scores: 9-10-10=29 out of 30!
Kelly and Louis are up next and she wants to break out of the “beige.” She is struggling so much this week and ends up crying a lot. I feel SO bad for her, I wish I could give her a hug! Their salsa this week is good, but you can tell she is very nervous and over thinking it at some parts at the beginning. However, as the dance progresses, she does much better and relaxes more. Once Louis loses those Cookie Monster pants, it is easier to concentrate on the dance. Carrie Ann gives her a hug and calls her brilliant and unafraid of the dance. Len stands up and says that while she was good and fearless, she Bruno table dances, Louis throws his pants at him and then he says Kelly thanks him for calling her beige since it kicked her butt this week. Scores: 8-8-8=24 out of 30.
Joanna and Derek have the rumba this week. They do some lame romantic dream date that is a fake dream sequence. It ends with him kissing his reflection. As corny as the package was, the dance is actually very beautiful and romantic. The movement, lines and musicality are nearly perfect and the footwork is well executed. Len calls it a job well done. Bruno says she is a love goddess and sexy, despite a stumble. Carrie Ann loved it. Was that Joanna’s sister in the audience? It looked like her. Scores: 9-9-9=27 out of 30.
Team Dance Off! The time has come for each team to prove they are here to stay. Team Paso Doble Team Tango Each team enters the ring standing head to head before Team Paso Doble takes the stage. They decide to focus on everyone’s strengths for the solos. The routine is a very rock and roll version of the paso doble. It is very edgy, strong and incredibly entertaining. The solos were all amazing, but I have to say that Aaron had the best one, with Mark hot on his heels.
Carrie Ann thinks Mark redeemed himself. Len compliments Michael and thinks it got better as it went on. Captain Aaron says that the honor truly belongs to Michael and Karina. Scores: 8-8-8=24 out of 30. This will be added to each of their scores. Team Tango is up next with their own routine. They make Donny their center man. Donny is also getting sick, but tries to fight it. The dance is very good, with some very intense solos and Bon Jovi. The dance definitely belongs to Joanna and Derek though. The Donny part in the beginning was stupid. I really like the linked tango at the end. Carrie Ann runs up to spank the boys for putting lifts in it. However, she thought it was awesome. Len calls it superior. Bruno just gushes over it and says Kelly found her mojo. Scores: 9-9-10=28 out of 30. The 28 will be added to each of their scores.
We get a recap of dances and scores before we are reminded to tune in tomorrow for Rod Stewart, Colbie Caillat and Ballas Hough Band---and of course our dance off and double elimination.
