Gilles Marini skyrocketed to fame as the sexy neighbor of Samantha Jones in the first Sex and the City movie. Since then, he has shown no signs of slowing down. He appeared last season of Dancing With The Stars where he and partner Cheryl Burke places second.

THE BEGINNING

Gilles began taking some acting classes with Vincent Chase in Hollywood. This led to him landing a manager, whom he said “believed in me and took me under his wings.” After a lot of hard work and determination, Gilles began working on television shows such as Passions, The Bold and the Beautiful, Dirty, Sexy Money and Ugly Betty. However, it wasn’t until he starred in the Sex and the City movie that he became a household name.

SEX AND THE CITY AND BECOMING AN OVERNIGHT SENSATION

What made him decide to audition for the sexy role that had women all across America drooling? Gilles reveals that he got a call from his manager telling him about the role. He decided to just go for it and the next thing he knew, he was flying to New York City for another audition. He admits that he knew he was pushing the envelope a bit with the character of Dante, but knew that the shock factor would work in his favor, so he just went for it. He did not expect to become such a huge sensation overnight though! It ended up being a good experience for him that he would do again if given the chance, although he says at this point, Dante has nothing to do with the sequel. (Sorry ladies!) He adds that Kim Cattrall was “just an incredible person to work with . Very supportive and so smart and sweet ..I had a blast...”

FROM SEX OT SAMBA: THE DANCING WITH THE STARS STORY

After the Sex and the City movie drew to a close, Gilles got another call from his manager. This time, he wanted Gilles to go on Dancing With The Stars for the show’s eighth season. As he and his manager were talking, he noticed his daughter Juliana dancing around the house in a pink tutu. He took this as a sign that he was meant to do the show and signed up right away! He credits his daughter for the reason as to why he decided to go on the show.

As for the experience, he says that despite the fact that he was dancing with a fractured shoulder since week one. His goal was to just not get eliminated each week and now he has a new passion for dancing. Gilles says his favorite dance to learn was the paso doble and admits that the jive was to fast for his liking. He also loved meeting and working with new people, saying he was able to “chameleon himself into the group.”

THE FUTURE

Gilles has not slowed down since his time on DWTS ended. He has a starring role as Sarah Walker’s boyfriend on “Brothers and Sisters” for five episodes. He tells me that he feels blessed to have worked with so many talented people on that show and hopes to stay on it as long as possible,

Gilles also plans to hopefully do more movies and even a Broadway show and one day get an Oscar nomination.

Terrific interview. Gilles is so honest and forthright in his talking to the press. Hopefully we will continue to see him for a long time on Brothers & Sisters, Movies and anything else he decides to do. Love that Gilles.
