The Biggest Loser, Second ChancesSeason Premiere Welcome to Season 8 of NBC' The Biggest Loser. This season premieres with Jillian and Bob telling us that for seven seasons Biggest Loser has been bringing new heroes. We see videos of Ali, Michele, Helen, Mike and Tara. This season we are bringing you 16 people who needed a second chance. A second chance to be an inspiration, a second chance to believe in themselves. These people are not like you, they are you! We join our 15 new contestants on the bus ride to their first challenge, although they think they are on the way to the Ranch. They are chanting Season 8 and feeling excited. First we meet Sean, the Youth Pastor, from Tulsa OK, who is the father of a 3 year old and a one year old and they have just found out that another is on the way. He tells us he has to do this, he will die if he doesn't do this. He says his kids are so young that if he goes, they won't remember him. He says he has been given an incredible second chance and he will not waste it. Alexandra says she has been overweight all her life and has had to face challenges other don't face in their lives. She tells us she is a college student and can't even fit in the seats, it is so embarassing to have to deal with stuff like that everyday. Danny, 39 years old from Arizona. He says when he was 17 years old, he was a rock star. He says he is sick and tired of feeling horrible and feels like someone has stolen his dream. He tells us there are so many things he wants to do with his wife and kids, but can't because he is physically too big. Liz doesn't understand what is wrong with her and doesn't like who she has become. She has 9 grandchildren and feels she has got to start making the right choices because she knows if she doesn't she will not be around to see them grow up and have children of their own. Mo tells us he is known as Coach Mo and Pops. He has 6 children and 5 grandchildren. He went to college on a football scholarship, he boxed, played basketball, ran track. He says he coaches kids now but carrying all his weight it is hard to keep up with them. He tells us his mind still thinks he can dunk a basketball but the body is not prepared to do it. Tracey's husband is in the Marine Corps. She has been alone a lot and that is where things started progressing with her weight. She tells us she gained 100 pounds with her first child. She tells of sitting in the bathroom eating Oreo's and crying but didn't want anyone to see her so she shut the door. She is ready for a change and that is why she is there. The Challenge Before we meet the others, the bus approaches a patrol car and is waved off the road onto the beach where they see Alison standing awaiting their arrival. The excitement builds as they realize something is up. They cheer and they get off the bus and see Alison. They line up on the Biggest Loser logo and are welcomed by Alison. She calls them up for a huddle and tells them that this is it. She tells them not too long ago, on this same highway, 4 contestants who started this competition were just as unhealthy as you. They all completed an entire marathon. She says 26.2 miles and they finished it exactly one mile from here. She says today, you will be literally be following in their footsteps. She announces that it is time for them to compete in their very first challenge, they will all race the final mile of the Biggest Loser Marathon. Shay is freaking out because she can not run a mile. Alison explains that this is something they have to do for themselves, which is why the winner, will get immunity. They all cheer. Alison continues. The winner will also get to choose their partner for the remainder of the competition, and both will have immunity. Alison tells them to get ready and line up. Alison says on your mark, get set.... hang on a second, I have another surprise for you today. She tells them to look behind them. They see a limo pull up and guess it may be Bob and Jillian. Daniel, from Season 7, steps out of the car to the cheers of the contestants. He runs over to join them with high fives and hugs. Alison officially introduces Daniel. She tells them that Dan has lost 142 pounds and is back to finish what he started. The challenge begins. Amanda (introduced to us at the end of last season) is nervous, but takes the lead, but is soon passed by Tracey. Daniel is close behind her and can't believe she is beating him... she gets to the top and Daniel passes her and tell her to come one she can do it. Shay is all alone at the end. Daniel is first and right behind is Allen, then Rebecca, Dina. Tracey is on all fours crawling to the finish line. Coach Mo is dizzy. Tracey refuses to give up and continues to crawl. All the contestants walk back and help Tracey cross the line. Tracey falls flat in the sand, they turn her over and her eyes roll back in her head and she is not responding to the paramedics. The paramedics call for an immediate medivac. The chopper arrives and Tracey is still unresponsive. They reflect on this is definitely a wake up call because it was only a mile. The bus arrives at the Ranch. Alison greets them and welcomes them to the Ranch. Alison informs them that she has heard from the doctor and both Tracey and Coach Mo are doing well. They will be staying at the hospital for observation but will remain in the game and will be back. It is now time to chose partners. She tells them they have one hour to get to know each other better to help them make their decision. Allen is a 44 year old Firefighter/EMT. He says today on the challenge he finished in paind and turned an saw Tracey and could not go to help her. He says for a firefighter that is the worst feeling. He says he would not have been able to give her a second chance because of the shape he is in. Rudy was a football player in college and coaches didn't want linemen to lose weight and unfortunately after college he kept eating but stopped working out. He has two daughters and a wife that depend on him. Rebecca, 25 years old, she's been called fat all her life, she weighed 235 pounds by the time she was 14 years old. She is tired of being the fat girl with the pretty face... I want my outside to match my inside. Shay's mother had a heroin addiction and they were homeless when she was a little girl. She was taken into foster care at 5 years old and remained their until she was 18. She says she doesn't give up, but the one thing she has never tried is to work on herself. Julio says he gained 100 pounds the first year of marriage. He says he and his wife had a promise to each other to change their lives after 40. He will do this for his wife and kids. Abby says she had a wonderful husband, 5 1/2 year old daughter and a 2 1/2 week old son, they were all killed in a car accident. She says in the blink of the eye everything she cherished was gone. She says she was not in the van and has to believe she is still here because there is something bigger. She ends her sad story with "but today I ran a mile!" Jillian gives her heck for trying to quit. Shay says she is ashamed. Jillian tells her she should not be ashamed, quitting is something to be ashamed of. Jillian gives her a work out. Mo returns. He tells us he was dehydrated and had low blood sugar. Mo finds out Tracey is still in the hospital and is his teammate. He says he can't believe she is still in the hospital but he will carry her for as long as possible. After a trip to get their physicals, they return to the Ranch for their last chance workouts. Julio shows a lot of drama so Jillian says everytime you fall over like that I'm gonna say dead father. He tells her he loves her for that. Danny struggles, but won't give up. Ditto Shay.
