Big Brother 10
BIG BROTHER 10
CHARACTERS AND
STRATEGY

Last night during Big Brother 10, I started seeing characteristics with the characters and the strategy they were attempting to use.  Of all in the house, I could get a slight handle on 10 of them.  Now, before you ask if the others are floaters, let me say I don’t think you can really come in the house and be a floater.  You will have an idea of what you plan to do.  It’s how obvious you are that makes you stand out.

Let’s first deal with the characters!

BRIAN – Brian thinks he is the master manipulator.  He honestly thinks he’s the next “Dr. Will.”  Well, Brian, while you are smart, you are nowhere near the genius that Will was.  Yes, you got Jerry to put up who you wanted and that was smart but you didn’t play your cards wisely.  You had the start of an alliance and you should have let it rest at that.  Instead, you went around making side deals with most of the house.  Brian, that was your dumb move.  The girls started talking and soon saw through you.  And, by the way, the use of Ollie was a dead give away.  Sure front men are good but they shouldn’t go in with you following.  You are not “king” after all.

OLLIE – Ollie is the follower.  He follows Brian until Brian messes up then he cast his lot with April and the girls.  While I think he was an idiot to make a deal with Brian this early in the game, he did and then quickly switched sides when he was found out!   His loyalty easily moves from one person to the next.  And for a “preacher’s kid,” he sure didn’t learn how to cover his rear.  And his showmance with April . . . well, let’s see what happens there now that April sees the light!

JESSIE – Jessie has strength but seems to be lacking in the smarts department!  He didn’t even “get” the Solomon and the baby story.  This one is used all the time and not just in Bible School.  Jessie could easily win the whole thing with his brawn but the questions will give him a fit.  He also needs to make his moves carefully or the threat will be even more obvious.  Every time he flexes those muscles he draws attention to himself.

JERRY – I honestly think Jerry tries to be fair.  I think he doesn’t know how to react to these “kids” as he calls them.  His good intentions may be his downfall.  I also foresee that he may have problems with physical challenges because he’s not as quick as the younger folks.  Jerry would actually be a good ally for Jessie – one has strength, the other smarts.  Jerry does need to wise up.  He needs to realize that good intentions are not how BB is won!

MEMPHIS – Memphis is the smartest player so far.  He didn’t’ buy into the deal with Brian.  Thus, I see him as having both the brain and the brawn.  Memphis also seems to have the ability to work with Jessie.  Memphis may be the hidden winner of this edition of BB.  He does need to get out there and be more visible but within a group.  Kudos to him for seeing that Brian was playing them all.

RENNY – Renny needs to step back and take some deep breathes.  She has a “mouth” on her that will either get her far or hurt her so much she can’t succeed.  She needs to learn to stay and fight when she starts a confrontation especially when your fate depends on people inside the house.

APRIL – April seems to be having one of the first showmances this season.  Unfortunately, she believes in her partner, Ollie, too much.  She wouldn’t believe that he was tied to Brian until they confronted him with it and he hesitated.  April has to start looking beyond what she feels and start manipulating Ollie to survive!

MICHELLE – Michelle didn’t see much action last night.  From what I observed though, she is smart and savvy and one for us to watch.  She’s a fighter and won’t go down without making a stab at taking the others down!

LIBRA – Libra sees beyond the surface and is the detective of the group.  Would Brian have been figured out so quickly if it wasn’t for Libra’s questions?  Probably but not as pointed as Libra did it!  She needs to work on people skills more and listen!

DAN – Poor Dan, he’s a follower.   While I admire him for keeping his word, his word is nothing in the BB house.  He hasn’t learned the cardinal lesson of BB:  Alliances at the start of the game hurt more than help!  With the suspicions and Ollie fueling them, Dan has a great big target on his back!

STRATEGY
Brian came out too quickly with his strategy.  He thinks of himself as another “Dr. Will” and clearly he doesn’t have the manipulative skills that Will had.  Brian did good in working the HOH to make the nominations that he wanted made but Brian goofed up big time when he started making side deals.  At this stage in the game, alliances should be kept quiet and deals left unspoken!  The side deals are what drew the attention of others and in the BB house all you can do it talk!  It’s not surprising that the truth came out and he’s on the block.  To him, the surprise is that they found out so quickly.  The only option he has is to plant doubt and he’s doing that now.  The question is:  Will he succeed?

Jerry’s strategy is to go with the flow and be nice.  The only problem is that Jerry is dealing with a bunch of kids and he is having trouble relating to them.  Trying to fit in, he does and says things that either hurt the others or make them secretly laugh at him.  Jerry needs to form an alliance (per se) with Jessie and Memphis.  Honestly, it should start as friendship and go from there.

Ollie’s strategy was to help Brian.  When Brian was found out, Ollie quickly changed sides and was with Libra and April and the rest.  The problem with Ollie is that once he got caught, he couldn’t cover themselves.  He says he doesn’t mind being “bad,” but there’s a time and place for everything.  His strategy now is to work with the girls and get Brian out.  Sure he’s working with the girls but for how long.  And since he’s been caught once, how safe is he.  Will they really trust “his word?”
