Beverly Hills, CA – September 10, 2014 … PEN Center USA, a literary nonprofit based in Beverly Hills, today announced that Aisha Tyler will host and Amy Poehler will present at the 24th Annual Literary Awards Festival, honoring the best writing in the western United States. The prestigious annual awards ceremony will take place on November 11, 2014, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Aisha Tyler will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies, presenting awards to a distinguished group of writers who will take home one thousand dollar cash prizes. In addition to acting and hosting, Tyler is herself a celebrated author, having released a successful collection of comic essays on pop culture, Swerve: Reckless Observations of a Post-Modern Girl, in 2004, as well as the New York Times best seller Self-Inflicted Wounds: Heartwarming Tales of Epic Humiliation in 2013. She is the creator and host of an award-winning podcast, Girl on Guy, as well as a frequent contributor to magazines, including Glamour Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Wired Magazine.

 

Award-winning actress, comedian, and writer Amy Poehler will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Norman Lear. No stranger to writing, Poehler’s first book, Yes, Please, will be published next month by Dey Street Books. Poehler is a friend of Lear and his wife Lyn, and conveyed her honor at being able to present the award to someone she considers a mentor and role model.



{sidebar id=8} In addition, PEN Center USA has announced that Mimi Pond has won the organization's Graphic Literature Award with special mention for her graphic memoir, Over Easy. Previously announced Literary Award winners include Gretel Ehrlich; Octavio Solis; Lindsay Hill; Craig Malisow; Victoria Chang; Bill Minutaglio and Steven L. Davis; Ben Coccio, Derek Cianfrance, and Darius Marder; Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham; Wayne A. Rebhorn; and Margarita Engle. Additionally, Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras will receive the First Amendment Award and Jose Antonio Vargas will be honored with the Freedom to Write Award.
