Mariah Carey will not return to “American Idol” next season.
The pop star’s publicity firm, PMK BNC, tweeted Thursday that Carey is departing the Fox series and planning a world tour in support of her new single.
Carey became a new judge on “Idol” last year along with Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. She and Minaj made headlines when they bickered on and off the airwaves.
Minaj also took to social media to confirm her exit from the program today, saying, “Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!”
Coming off of a season of double-digit ratings declines, “American Idol” producers are in talks with former finalist Jennifer Hudson to join the judges’ panel next year, according to a report on Vulture.
Randy Jackson recently announced that he was also leaving American Idol.
